Safety

Safety is our Priority

Aeropower is an AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 Certified Airborne Electrical Contractor who specializes in providing a full range of electrical power industry services using helicopters as a platform to patrol, inspect, construct, string, wash and perform live-line repairs and maintenance.

To ensure maximum safety when flying within electrical infrastructure a 3D CAD program calculates the Critical Minimum Approach distances in accordance with IEEE/ANSI Standards 516 / 95 using information supplied by the customer.

This theoretically provides us with information whether we can perform the work safely from a hovering platform.

This information is verified on site using our laser scanner (Aeroscan). This eliminates any guess work and clearly shows all mechanical and electrical clearances to the millimeter in the job package provided to the crews as well as the procedure required to carry out the work safely.

In August 1995 a working group from the Electricity Supply Association of Australia, (ESAA) established an Australian guideline for the use of Helicopters For Live Line Work.  Aeropower’s airborne procedures and training standards are conducted in accordance with the ESAA Guideline.

The MD500 helicopter was chosen by Aeropower for its compact size and small diameter multi bladed main rotor system which allows for safer, more precise access to power lines and is a more efficient rotor system than the two bladed systems found on other comparative helicopters.

This lighter, more maneuverable, stable helicopter is powered by the most widely used and proven Rolls Royce Allison C20 Series Turbine engine which enables Aeropower to perform power line maintenance tasks more safely and efficiently carrying more useable pay load than larger, heavier helicopters.

Aeropower Staff Training

To ensure Aeropower's safety standards are maintained a detailed training and audit program is established in accordance with Aeropower's Quality Assurance (QA) Procedures.
Each year Aeropower conducts comprehensive staff training to ensure our operations are conducted to the highest possible standards. Resuscitation procedures, flight standards, platform live line methods and general training are covered.
